Panarea Coffee table .60

Panareais a low table made entirely from glossy glazed ceramic. Available finishes: Terracotta, Emerald Green, Aquamarine, Olive, Sand.

The technique used to produce the artefact is known asslip casting. The name derives from the process of pouring liquid clay – technically known as‘slip’– into a mould.‎ The creation of the plaster moulds is entrusted to master craftsmen capable of producing modular components, which form a hollow shape into which the slip is poured.‎ Plaster has absorbent properties, so it dries the slip, turning it into a solid, clay-like state; however, the piece can only be removed from the mould once it has reached ‘leather hardness’.‎ At this stage, the piece is ready for its first firing at 1080° over 24 hours; this process produces the bisque.‎
The bisque is white in appearance and has a certain degree of porosity; at this stage, we can apply the glaze using hand-held airbrushes.‎ Once glazed, the pieces are fired again for 24 hours at 980°; the handcrafted glazing and this type of firing give each piece a unique, artisanal appearance, bringing out the ever-changing nuances in every item.‎
